Hanau, the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm, is one of the centers of German goldsmithing. The guild of goldsmiths and silversmiths was founded there as early as 1610. Two hundred years later, in 1801, the jewelry factory C. M. Weishaupt & Söhne opened here, which achieved several successes in the course of the 19th century: in 1851, Weishaupt was awarded the Council Medal for his work at the World Exhibition in London, and in Paris in 1867 he was awarded a bronze medal. Only recently, the city of Hanau purchased a precious antique gold box from the company, which is now on display in the Historical Museum Schloss Philippsruhe. The present brooch also comes from this traditional company, which produced numerous precious gold boxes - indispensable accessories for the upper classes at the time. It is in the form of a twisted bar motif with spheres at the ends, as was fashionable in the 1880s. Here we see two beautiful spheres of blue lapis lazuli, held by granulations. The round bar connecting the two spheres shows a fine martellation, also known as hammering. The dark blue and luxurious gold complement each other beautifully.
