Like all treasures of nature, large pearls also belonged in the art and curiosity cabinets of the rulers of Baroque Europe. In particular, the sometimes bizarrely grown, so-called baroque pearls inspired artisans to create all kinds of droll designs - the so-called "pearl figurines". These are small jewel sculptures that use the natural shape of the respective baroque pearl as the starting form and body for a little man. It almost goes without saying that these figures were often humorous in nature. With 57 examples, the Green Vault in Dresden houses the largest collection of such figures, as Augustus the Strong was one of the great collectors of these precious and amusing pieces around 1700. This necklace from the 1920s is a reminiscence of these baroque gems. Unfortunately, the goldsmith's work came to us incomplete, i.e. without the lower end. We added an unusual pearl to the pendulum of the showpiece, which reminded us of the preference of princely collections for baroque pearls. The large, irregularly shaped freshwater cultured pearl is crowned by a small diamond. A movably mounted pendulum leads to a hexagonally set old-cut diamond, which is set in a shadow gap. The result is a necklace with a special look that combines the strict forms of Art Déco with the freedom of natural shapes.
