Beau Brummel (* June 7, 1778 in London; † March 30, 1840 in Caen, France) was the male style icon of the early 19th century. The epitome of the dandy, he popularized a fashionable style that elevated neat understatement to the highest principle. Clothes and accessories were restrained, but always made of the best materials and perfectly crafted. Brummel had his clothes made to measure and founded the tradition of excellent men's outfitters, who are still based on London's Savile Road today. Brummel also used jewellery sparingly, however the pieces he wore were always exquisite. Therefore, the present pair of cufflinks would probably have pleased him with its luxurious material composition. Created in the years around 1950, the pair consists of four similarly shaped round buttons. They are made of high karat white gold and show frontal inlays of shimmering mother-of-pearl, each with an applied wreath of floral engraved white gold. A small diamond sparkles in the center of each button. With their light colors, the buttons are still very much in the Art Deco tradition. However, the diamond cuts and the already clearly abstract leaf engravings allow us to date the pair to the early post-war period. The buttons are very nicely preserved and ready to wear!
