2000 Years of Jewellery
I

mmerse yourself in the course of time, discover the transformation of fashions and explore in the world of jewellery: From the refined luxury of the time around 1800 through the long 19th century that gave us the Romantic period as well as Art Nouveau and Art Déco styles, we’ll show you a plethora of the most beautiful jewels. Selected vintage pieces from later years complete our collection.

Joseph Marie Vien (circle of): L’allégorie du temps, c. 1780. Private collection.

Why, for example, did people rediscover Rococo art in the late 19th century, or adorn themselves with jewellery in the style of antiquity? What moved the artists of Art Nouveau only a little later to break with the forms of the past? And why does the bangle fall out of fashion just at the moment when the woman can free herself from the big crinolines? And what does the history of hairstyles have to do with the shape of earrings?

In the following, we would like to answer these and similar questions and, in doing so, tell you a little more about our jewellery than a mere first glance reveals.

A focus of our assortment are pieces from Queen Victoria’s Britain. Here, in the small format of the jewellery, the whole wealth of those years is gathered en miniature.
