Description
Knot shapes are popular elements in jewellery design. Not only do they offer the most beautiful twists, especially on metal surfaces, which can reflect the striking light in wonderful different ways, so that light and shadow model the shapes and give them plasticity. Above all, pieces of jewellery with knots as motifs of loyalty and solidarity have always been popular gifts. These rose gold and yellow gold cufflinks take up this old motif. They show four identical knots with a double entwined rope, held together by a simple gold clasp. According to the stamp, the buttons were made in Vienna and we discovered them in the metropolis on the Danube. Nowadays, cufflinks are one of the few pieces of jewellery that can adorn men. Why don't you also make a fashion statement on your sleeves - a dignified pair of cufflinks made of fine material is so much more stylish than plain plastic shirt buttons! The buttons are beautifully preserved and are a stylish and classic eye-catcher on your shirt.

The forerunners of today's shirts, whose sleeves could be tied with a silk ribbon, were created as early as the 16th century. Although silk cuff bands remained popular until the 19th century, from the time of Louis XIV onwards, cuffs were increasingly fastened with boutons de manchette, i.e. cufflinks, typically pairs of coloured glass buttons connected by a short chain. In the course of the 18th century, these glass buttons were replaced by elaborately painted pieces or pairs set with precious stones. At this time, cufflinks were very much a luxury item, especially in aristocratic circles.
