Vintage Clip Earrings with 1.56 ct Diamonds in White Gold, Netherlands 1960s
Description
The hairstyle fashions of the 1960s gave women a lot of freedom when it came to wearing their hair. But whether long, pinned up as a beehive or combed behind the ears at medium length, eye-catching earrings or clips were always the ideal accompaniment. While daytime ear jewellery was primarily made of yellow gold and coloured gemstones, evening jewellery was mainly made of white gold, platinum and diamonds, as in previous decades. This pair of clip earrings is typical evening jewellery from this period. Made from high-carat white gold and fifty-eight diamonds, the ear clips combine everything that no luxurious jewellery box of the 1960s could be without. A total of around 1.56 carats of diamonds are set in brilliant and octagonal cuts. The shape of the clips is typical of the 1950s and 1960s. Whether in the form of feathers, leaf motifs as here or completely abstract curves, people loved dynamic, sculptural ear jewellery that followed the natural shape of the pinna. Designs very similar to this were sought after throughout Europe and the USA and were launched by houses such as David Webb and Van Cleef & Arpels. Our clips are in excellent condition and, according to the stamp, were manufactured in the Netherlands. The perfect complement (not only) to the Chanel costume, which captured the hearts of ladies at the time.
