Description

The present ring is a so-called Toi-et-moi ring: this is revealed by the two number of gemstones and their equal presentation, which puts both equally in the spotlight. As the name suggests, the two gemstones are meant to symbolize lovers. Napoleon already honored his Joséphine with such a ring made of sapphire and diamond, and a century and a half later, John F. Kennedy asked for the hand of his Jackie, then Jacqueline Bouvier, with a toi et moi ring made of emerald and diamond. The two gemstones contrasted here are a diamond and a sapphire. The fine white old-cut diamond weighs around 0.34 ct and is set by airy platinum prongs that look like a small crown. Opposite it we see a sapphire of wonderfully intense color set in yellow gold. Small diamonds set the curved ring shoulders and lead to the shank made of warm, shiny yellow gold, so that the gemstones appear united in a dance. The ring was created shortly after 1910, when the Toi et moi ring was booming. The fact that the diamond settings are made entirely of platinum and no longer of yellow gold, as was common in previous years, shows that the goldsmith who carried out the work was up to date not only in the forms of his design, but also technically. The sapphire also speaks of modern achievements, as it is a Verneuil synthesis from the laboratory - one of the greatest innovations of that time. In 1902 the first sapphires and rubies created in this way went on sale. The process was based on an invention by the Frenchman Auguste Verneuil. The stones produced in this way were as clear and bright as the most beautiful natural gemstones, and the sapphire set in our ring also shines in bright blue. Only it was made by human hands, and to find it one no longer had to rely on lucky finds from distant lands. We discovered the gem in Stuttgart. Thanks to its timeless design language and romantic message, it is ideal as an engagement ring or love gift.
