Vintage ‘Ballerina’ White Gold Ring with Precious Sapphire & Diamonds, c. 1975
Description
We have never been able to offer a sapphire as marvellous as this one before: Its deep blue colour is neither too light nor too dark, but intense and luminous. Its body is deep and yet clear and translucent. And its size is just perfect, so that it is perfectly showcased in its exciting setting of white gold and diamonds. The 4.62 ct sapphire is untreated, i.e. not heated or otherwise enhanced in colour or purity by humans. Nature alone has created this miracle. The sapphire was discovered in Madagascar, where first-class sapphires have been found since the 1970s. The ring sets the sapphire in a sculptural setting of high-carat gold and diamonds. Four brilliant-cut diamonds accompany the sapphire along the axis of the ring shank. Trapezoid-cut diamonds are staggered to the front and back like rays of a sparkling star. The diamonds are arranged in a gentle curve, like a billowing train of the lightest fabric in the wind: this impression is why this type of ring is also known as a ‘ballerina ring’. We have commissioned independent expert reports on the quality of the materials used to make this precious find. They are enclosed with the ring. We discovered the ring in Hanover.
